Sussex-born stock

All our winter animals are born inside, under shelter; a few late arrivals outside in the summer. As soon as the spring weather is mild enough they go out onto natural grass, where they stay until winter returns.

Indoors, they eat harvested grass from our previous year’s summer silage and hay, or mixed grain, much of which is grown on the farm. They are not fed GM products, or given any additives or steroids.

Traditional lamb

The sheep are English breeds, primarily Suffolk mules with British Texels which produce good growth in lambs and flavoursome meat. Lambs stay with their mothers, until they can feed themselves.

Real Food guru Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, in his acclaimed book Meat, points out: “Grass-fed beef and lamb not only has a better taste, it’s better for you as well."
