Caring for the environment

Highfields Farm works tirelessly to keep environmental impact as low as possible and its standards are subject to external checks. Carcasses are processed locally and transported to outlets no further away than London, an estimated 60 miles from East Sussex, keeping the carbon footprint and food miles to a minimum.

Under the Countryside Stewardship Scheme, Highfields Farm follows best environmental practice. It enthusiastically adopts the principles of FWAG, the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group, and all its livestock are Farm Assured.

In 2006 the Duke of Kent (below left) presented Simon Tindall, the estate’s owner (centre), and Farm Manager Simon Jenner, with the South East’s highest environmental award, the Woodpecker Trophy, for work with the Countryside Commission over the last 15 years.
